Dialogue Book Club: Moon Tiger

“Catching up where we left off in July, Dialogue’s Book Club will be meeting in the familiar surroundings of Café Hilde to talk about our summer selection, Penelope Lively’s Booker Prize-winning Moon Tiger. Claudia Hampton has lived a full life as historian, reporter, lover, mother. Now she is dying in a London hospital, where she remembers the events in her life, particularly a romance with a tank commander during World War II, a passion that defined much of the rest of her life.”

‘Moon Tiger is one of the very best Booker winners. Few books I’ve read recently have given me so much pleasure. (Or pain — this is literature of the first order, after all.)’ -The Guardian

Music at Hilde: Ken Parsons

17.09.2010 @ 21:30

KEN PARSONS is a Celtic Harper, singer and allround entertainer. What can you expect? Beautiful harp songs, deadly witty short poems and crafted original songs in every posible style, funny, moving, thought provoking

Ken is multi-instrumental and wth 20 years of singing experience he has a powerful and versatile voice- you can detect his background as a trained choir singer in his more delicate emotional songs but the next minute you hear the raucous harsh, punk, rock and roll and comedy voice he perfected after years as busker and entertainer in pubs and clubs. His own songs are well honed and he does covers as they should be done. Few singers can match his delivery, diction and rapid fire lyricism.

A Night of Short Film: Magic

by admin on July 2nd, 2010

While The Privateer is practicing a magical trick of such magnitude that Dandyism itself seems almost trivial, he has requested we take this opportunity to tell you about the next film night at cafe Hilde this coming Thursday the 8th of July. Yes folks, MAGIC is coming your way in all its forms. From trickery, to fantasy to down right fake majesty. And it is all wrapped up in the guise of an hour of short film loveliness. Add to this the prospect of a live, almost death defying trick performed personally and, pretty much, exclusively by Berlin’s favourite dandy, The Privateer himself, and you have another evening of Short Film Wonderment worthy of the title. We hope to see you there, but be careful, magic can be a cunning mistress.

Opaca Tango

Vocals: Sofia Aristarain
Pianist: Mariela Orda

“We were performing in our land, Argentina, for different “Milongas”, events, restaurants and private shows.
In the quest of an artistic identity we went through different popular genres without discarding the languages and culture from another countries, nourishing ourselves from their inherent characteristics. Which allows us generate today our own color, choose the mode and shade when we play music. In each stylistics challenge we find our own expressive mode. Tango brings us today something which lay occult since our childhood when we see in the distance lyrics we didn’t understand. Poetry has touched us to the point of knowing that this is the language we want to speak. We play a classic tango repertoire, with own musical arrangements.”
